Dorothy Rogers Porter, a longtime civic and cultural leader, and wife of the late Sixth Avenue Baptist Church pastor Rev. Dr. John T. Porter, died on June 1. A native of Dallas County, Alabama, she was 77 years old.

Mrs. Porter is survived by her children - Mia Porter, Robert Porter, and Christian Awobade; grandchildren, Malcolm Williams, Tiphanee, Maya, and Symone Porter; sisters, Lee Etta Harris, Hattie Rogers, Carolyn R. Jenkins, Kathryn R. Parker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 3:00 P.M., Friday, June 7, 2013 at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. The Links, Inc. Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 P.M. and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony will follow. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 8 at the church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Porter Minority Scholarship in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Rogers Porter at Samford University, Department of University Advancement, 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229.
